The Arlberg comprises the two regions of Tyrol and Vorarlberg and is a sweeping expanse of slopes, perfect for both piste and off-piste skiing. Tyrol lies to the east and includes St Anton, St Christoph and Stuben. To the west lies Vorarlberg, encompassing Lech, Zurs, Oberlech and Sonnenkopf.
Open each season from the third week of November until the beginning of May, St Anton receives around seven metres of snow annually. Your
lift pass may seem expensive at first - an adult pass for six days costs €199 in high season - but considering the terrain you can cover it isn't a bad deal. The 85 ski lifts allow you to explore 270km of pisted runs and 174km of powder runs. Equally as important are the excellent mountain restaurants in the region.
Our favourite runs
Beginners: Start at Nasserein, where the nursery slope is less steep than the one close to the main lifts.
Intermediates: The run from Schindler Spitze to Rauz is very long (over 1000m), varied and great for good intermediates.
Advanced: The most demanding runs are on the steep slopes of Schindler Kar, the black
2 (Kandahar) on Galzig and the black
R2a (Gampenberg) run on Rendl.
Off-piste: Rendl offers endless bowls and numerous challenging routes, and untracked powder can still be found many days after a fresh snowfall.
