Bansko - Bulgaria

Bansko is both the newest ski resort in Eastern Europe and one of Bulgaria's most historical towns. It offers a great budget solution and with many recent improvements in skiing and accommodation Bansko is becoming an attractive option for British skiers.

Why Bankso for a budget holiday ?

  • Brand new ski instrastructure
  • Accommodation from as little as €10 per person per night
  • Traditional taverns offering good food for reasonable prices
  • Great night life
  • Excellent snow-making facilities

Situated in south west Bulgaria at the foot of the Pirin and Rita mountain ranges, about three hours' drive from Sofia, Bansko is an up and coming resort.  It has a wealth of history so offers visitors more than skiing.

Traditionally it has been frequented mainly by German, Greek and Balkan tourists as it is generally better value and more accessible than other western European resorts.

Bansko is small and split into the old town, with many bars and restaurants, and the new town which is rapidly developing. The main gondola lift is in the new town, about 10 minutes walk from the centre of the old town.

Apres-ski in Bansko is a mixed bag. Bars can be lively and they have of the best night clubs, the prices are very reasonable but the decor and music can be a be dodgy !

The currency in Bansko is leva, you can generally get a good exchange rate at the cash machines.
