Savoyarde specialities feature a lot of cheese – particularly reblochon – the locally produced soft cheese of the region, and this is evident in a lot of dishes – tartiflette (potatoes, ham and reblochon), fondue and raclette (melted cheese on potatoes and cold meat) for instance. This is hearty mountain food however and well-deserved after a day on the mountain – prices are generally fairly reasonable too.
Five to try
The Telemark Restaurant:Set high on the Etale piste the Telemark has stunning views down over La Clusaz from the sunny deck. It also offers a hot tub, large open fire and wonderful salads and Savoyarde specialities – a great lunch spot.
La Bercail:
It’s an adventure getting here as it’s only accessible on foot or by snowmobile as it’s in the middle of a piste! Delicious roast duck cooked over an open fire followed by special chocolate pudding.
The Caves du Pacally:We particularly like the Caves for its trendy clientele, funky music and choice of nibbles – sushi and tapas.
Pub le Salto:
Serves Beamish, has excellent ‘I’m starving now’ food, all the sports matches and a pool table. Run by an Irish/French couple, it has a great apres-ski atmosphere.
L’Outa:
The best value meal in town – delicious pizza. Often open out of season when nothing else is.
Our penny's worth
For a quick bite in the middle of the day without wasting valuable ski time visit
La Broche take-away in the middle of town. It offers a huge range of pizza, tarts, tartiflette or kebabs as well as stuffed guinea fowl or duck with orange sauce sandwiches. A quick, cheap, culinary delight!
