Mad Dog Ski: Ski Resort guidebooks for Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland

Food and drink - Les Deux Alpes - France

Deux Alpes restaurant - Juan CarmonaAlthough there are sometimes complaints about the quality of food in Les Deux Alpes, this is a little unfair, as there are plenty of options, and it is merely the case that some places reflect the budgets of their customers. Le Bel Auberge and Le P'titi Polyte offer excellent gourmet dining, whilst the Blue Salmon is a great fish restaurant. Whether you are looking for Swiss-style mountain cuisine or Italian dishes, there is generally something for every taste and budget.

If you are an apres-ski aficionado then bring your dancing shoe, because this is party town, and continues well into the small hours. Les Deux Alpes has, without question, one of the most vibrant apres-ski scenes in the French Alps, with bars and restaurants catering for almost every taste.

Five to try

Restaurant Les Sagnes
Traditional fare in an authentic old Alpine Chalet.

Le P'tit Polyte:
A nationally recognised, Michellin-starred restaurant.

Le Panoramic:
Nice atmosphere and great food, a must.

Smokey Joe's:
This where the best apres-ski can be found.

Smithy's Tavern:
This is the best place to party later in the evening.

Our penny's worth

There are some seriously good local dishes that should definitely be given a try. 'Tartiflette' is a fantastic mix of potato, bacon, cream and reblochon cheese, baked in the oven. 'Crozets' are tiny squares of pasta traditionally served in a sauce of local cheese, ham and cream. If you want to get away from the cheese, try a 'Pierre chaude' (hot stone). You cook beef, chicken or occasionally fish on a hot plate brought to your table. (To prevent sticking, sprinkle the stone with salt before cooking the meat).
