Where to stay - Megeve - France

Megeve tourist officeStaying close to the centre of town has its advantages. A few minutes' stroll away and you are in the midst of everything, and whether you fancy popping into town for an aperitif or going window shopping, nothing is far away. With the ski lift in the centre of town, you are just five minutes away from being on the slopes. Most accommodation in or around the centre is in hotels or private apartments, which can be rented from any of the agents in town. There is also a good range of catered chalets close to the centre.

Best for

Budget:
When cash is more of an issue, the central and reasonably priced Hotel Prairie is central and close to the Chamois lift.

Location:
If you’ve come for the slopes then you’ll want to be as close as possible. Try Ferme Duvillard based at the foot of the Mont d’Arbois gondola.

Traditional charm:
For that real rustic French appeal, Fer a Cheval has great food, good wine and the typical chalet charisma.

Splashing the cash:
For easy access, comfort and of course style head to Mont Blanc.

Apartments:
If you want the complete experience, try out Chateau & Residence Megeve on the Mont d’Arbois road.

Accommodation

Chalets
For many, the beauty of catered chalet holidays is the food - breakfast, afternoon tea and a three course evening meal with free wine - and someone to cook it and wash up afterwards. You have the freedom of your own space rather than the more formal environment of a hotel which can be great if you are with a group of friends and can take over the whole chalet.
Hotels
Hotels tend to be the more luxurious option, often with welcome facilities such as steam rooms, swimming pools and on-site bars (although check out the luxury chalet operators too). They are often the best option for short breaks but at peak times even they may demand a minimum stay of one week.
Self-catering
If you prefer to be your own boss then you should think about self-catered accommodation. You have to be fairly organised to shop and cook after a full day on the slopes and eating out every night can add up, although take-aways are an option, and you have the chance to check out some of the local restaurants too.
