The slopes of Sainte Foy have a lot to recommend them. For starters, there are excellent snow conditions due to the north-west facing slopes, and plentiful sweeping runs through the trees for beginners and intermediates. There are also two adult and children's nursery slopes that are served by three drag lifts. The three main chairlifts take you from 1550m right up to 2620m, and from here there is easy access to both on and off-piste areas. Although the lift system may at first seem limited, lift queues are a rare sight and the lack of crowds and the sheltered position mean that the snow remains in good condition for longer.
Sainte Foy will keep more advanced skiers entertained as well, with its varied selection of challenging red and black runs. Skiers, boarders and telemarkers alike will revel in the powder just yards from the pistes or amongst the trees, which lasts for days thanks to its north-west facing slopes.
Beginners:
There's a good children's area near the ski school, and a moving carpet lift on the small nursery slope. After that you can progress to a long green run off the first chair and gentle blues higher up.
Intermediates:
The red from the Col de l'Aiguille is a superb test for confident intermediates, who would also be up to the off-piste routes, especially the Monal black route back to Sainte Foy.
Advanced:
There is a great route from the Pointe de la Gofliette, which takes you through trees and over a stream down to the tiny village of Le Crot.
Off-piste:
Take a guide to discover the infamous 1700m vertical descent of the north face of Fogliettaz.
