Mad Dog Ski: Ski Resort guidebooks for Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland

On the piste - Val d'Isere - France

One word sums up the Espace Killy - awesome. Reaching across the Alps, it has miles-upon-miles of snow-covered mountains. Whether it’s backcountry powder or long wide pistes that get your heart racing, Val d’Isere has access to it all. Val has a well-deserved reputation for its excellent off-piste but there is plenty of on-piste skiing to keep everyone happy from beginner to expert. And the fast modern lift system will ensure you spend most of your time flying down the perfectly groomed slopes.

Our favourite runs

Beginners:
Head to the Solaise to warm up your ski legs, take your first few ‘ski steps’ or just build up your confidence.

Intermediates:
Arcelle is a fantastic long red. To avoid the steepest entrance join from below the top of Manchet Express.

Advanced:
If you can hold your own, then it’s well worth taking on the infamous and steep Olympic black run, the Face.

Off-piste:
The Tour du Charvet goes through florious scenery from the top of the Grand Pre chairlift on the back of Bellecarde, ending at the bottom of the Manchet chair in the Solaise area.
