Megeve - France

Megeve is a chic French resort full of character and charm, horse drawn taxis and small cafes and designer shops. Wine bars, creperies and cosy restaurants can be found on either side of the streams and narrow walkways throughout the centre.

Megeve tourist officeMegeve was developed in the 1950s by the Baroness de Rothchild and has since been host to the rich and famous, a traditional resort which has not lost its charm, Renowned for its dining, with over 80 restaurants in resort, including Michelin star restaurants such as Le Flocons de Sel and La Ferme de Mon Pere.

Only an hour from Geneva and with over 325km of piste Megeve is fast making a comeback as one of Europe’s top skiing destinations, an ideal resort for families and groups of mixed ability skiers looking for a short ski break. Most of the skiing is picturesque tree-lined skiing, long wide pistes ideal for carving, for the more adventurous there are bumps, off piste powder runs and steeper terrain. Megeve itself is fairly low at 1100m but all of the skiing is on pastureland so you don't need as much snow cover as the higher resorts. Megeve may not have the jumping apres-ski bars of Austria or the party resorts of Val d'Isere and Meribel but there are still plenty of trendy French bars to choose from, including a lively Jazz club and even a casino if you are feeling lucky.
