Food and drink - Saas-Fee - Switzerland

For a relatively small town, you will be spoilt for choice with over 100 restaurants in Saas Fee; food ranges from traditional specialities of the Valais to gourmet cuisine. Swiss food is mixed with Italian influences, as the border is only a few kilometres away. Some are on the main street of town, and some great, more private ones hidden on small streets or heading into the forest.

Service here is of utmost importance to all restaurants, meaning you will always feel like royalty, with happy, helpful staff catering for you and your group or family. Most restaurants boast the traditional Swiss delights such as Fondue and Raclette, but will cater for almost any taste, some more varied than others.

There is a lively apres-ski scene in Saas Fee, spreading out from the bottom of the slopes up through the main street of town. The outdoor bars are only open till 7pm at the latest, as there are strict sound restrictions, enforced by local police (known as the Shush police). This moves keen drinkers to the indoor bars, which are all heavily soundproofed.

Five to try

Allalin
Famous for being Europe's highest revolving restaurant, you cant beat the views on a clear day.

Langfluh
Apart from the breathtaking views, the homemade food is warming on a cold day and the prices. reasonable.

Don Ciccio
The most popular Italian restaurant of Saas Fee.

Gletscher Garden
A perfect choice for an intimate, romantic meal.

Black Bull
Still ‘the place’ for apres-ski in Saas Fee (outdoor seating only).

Our penny’s worth

If you want to party hard, this is the place where night turns to day before you’ve even got to bed. Considering the small town traditions of Saas Fee it's quite surprising that the nightclubs are open till 6am. (Which can leave skiers and boarders with a serious lack of sleep for the next day!)
