Most flights from the UK go to Geneva or Zurich, and these are the most popular options, at 140km and 145km away respectively, although Milan, Basel and Bern are also fairly close.
The nearest airport is Sion but it is very small and has extremely limited flights. Swissair has flights there from London every Saturday during the winter season. Shuttle buses connect the airport to Saas-Fee. Another option is to check out charter flights to this airport.
Although there isn't a station in Saas Fee, the train is a pleasant and environmentally friendly way to travel. Trains from London Waterloo to Geneva (change in Paris) take around nine hours. Take the train to Brig or Visp and change to a post bus with the direct destination "Saas-Fee". There are hourly connections until 8.05pm from Brig and until 8.25pm from Visp. You can check your luggage all the way through and collect it at the bus station at the Saas Valley post offices.
Trains run from both Geneva airport and Zurich airport too, and again, you need to change onto the post bus in order to reach the resort.
If going by bus, try to book your tickets well in advance – they can get very busy and some companies act on a reservation-only basis. From Geneva airport you can either get a train to Brig or Visp and change onto the post bus, which goes every hour, or get a bus directly from Geneva, which takes around three hours.
Alternatively, hiring a car is an option. The driving time between Geneva and Saas Fee is around three hours, and from Zurich it is around four. Winter tyres, snow chains and ski racks are normally available at additional costs - make sure you request them when booking (you are required by law to carry snow chains).
For door-to-door, taxis are a good option, although not the cheapest.
Self-drive
The journey will take around 10 hours from Calais. Most of the route is on motorway and tolls will be about 45 euros one-way. You will need winter tyres and snow chains.
If you are travelling by car, you may have to put your car on a car-train to transport it through one of the tunnels - via Bern on the Lotschberg tunnel car-train. If you are coming from the east, you can either take the Furka pass, or the car-train through the Furka tunnel. These go every half hour or hour respectively.
Saas Fee is car-free, so you will have to pay to leave your car outside the village, and transfer your luggage either via electric taxi or handcart. However, the Saas Fee visitor's card gives a reduction on parking from the second day.
